Owners of Rapidan Dam Store Evacuate

Jenny Barnes and her family have owned the Rapidan Dam Store for half a century

Jenny Barnes and her family have owned the Rapidan Dam Store for half a century, but now they're facing the threat of losing their home and business to the rising waters of the Rapidan River.

The Blue Earth County government announced earlier this week that the Rapidan Dam near Mankato was in imminent danger of failure, and that the area downstream, including the Rapidan Dam Store, was at risk of flooding.

Barnes and her family have been working around the clock to evacuate their store and their home, which is located just a few feet from the river.

"We're just trying to save what we can," Barnes said. "We've been here for so long, it's hard to imagine not being here."

The Rapidan Dam Store is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, known for its homemade sandwiches, ice cream, and souvenirs.

"It's a special place," Barnes said. "We've made a lot of friends here over the years, and we're going to miss it if we have to leave."

The Barnes family is hoping for the best, but they're also prepared for the worst.

"We're not going to give up without a fight," Barnes said. "We're going to do everything we can to save our store and our home."
